Recent research has highlighted the remarkable mental health benefits of weight training for older adults. The study underscores how resistance training not only enhances physical well-being but also fortifies mental resilience. Researchers emphasize that weight training reduces frailty in both body and mind among seniors with depressive or anxious tendencies. Group weight training sessions offer not only physical exercise but also social engagement, amplifying the mental health benefits. Three sessions per week with three sets of exercises, lasting for moderate durations, appear most effective. Furthermore, incorporating resistance machines and free weights yields superior results compared to bodyweight exercises alone. While acknowledging the promising findings, researchers emphasize the need for further investigation to solidify these conclusions.
