Alappad: The natives of Alappad have been observing strike for the past 70 days against the black sand mining, the practice which have continued for more than 50 long years. They have been raising the slogan 'Save Alappad' for quite some time. The organizers of the protest council​ claims that the village which earlier had a total area of 89.5 kms, has been shrunk into just 7.6 square kms due to mining.
