Work is well under way on the £18m rail station that will open in Soham later in the year. The town has been without a station since the late 60s when it fell victim to the Beeching cuts. It is a momentous moment. But not all residents are happy with the speed at which it is being constructed. Donna Martin’s 17th century cottage is adjacent to what will be the station car park and says her worst fears of disturbance, noise, loss of trees, threats to wildlife and risk of flooding are coming true.
