Leclerc Voices Discontent With Ferrari Strategy Over Radio

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc made his frustrations clear with his team over a radio message during the Canadian Grand Prix. Leclerc, who was coming off the back of a win in Monaco, was forced to retire alongside teammate Carlos Sainz in the race in Montreal. The Monegasque driver was dealing with engine issues throughout the weekend, with the car losing valuable time on the straights. Leclerc was also becoming increasingly irritated at the team’s tire strategy compared to the rest of the field as rain began to fall during the race. Ferrari had opted to keep Leclerc on the slicks to compensate for the engine issues, with the rest of the field choosing the intermediate tires. Leclerc asked team engineer Bryan Bozzi, “Should we box again?” given the heavy downpour of rain, according to Planet F1. He also noted that he was “losing ten seconds a lap” and “If we are losing 1.5 seconds on the straight, then there’s no f****** point”. The 26-year-old asked to retire the car, and when the team eventually did after 43 laps, he replied, “That is a good idea”.
