US Navy destroyer seen at Israeli port amid tensions with Iran

A U.S. Navy destroyer that was docked at the Israeli port of Eilat was seen on Sunday (February 1) maneuvering into the Red Sea, as tensions between Washington and Iran remain high despite talks. On Friday (January 30) Israel's Ynet said the arrival of the destroyer at the southern port on the Gulf of Aqaba, near Israel's borders with Egypt and Jordan, was pre-planned and part of ongoing cooperation between the U.S. and Israeli militaries. The deployment in Eilat came as the U.S. built up its naval presence in the Middle East after President Donald Trump repeatedly threatened Iran with intervention if it did not agree to a nuclear deal or failed to stop killing protesters.
