Explained | JEE-NEET exams amid Covid: What students must do; NTA rules

Even as India battles the Covid-19 pandemic, two major entrance examinations are set to be held in the month of September. The JEE Main exam will be held between September 1 and 6, while the NEET-UG will be held on September 13. With almost 16 lakh candidates registering for NEET, and over 8.5 lakh for JEE Main, the National Testing Agency - the body which oversees the conduct of the exams - has released guidelines to minimise risk of infection. Apart from increasing the number of exam centres and reducing the number of students per room, they have also specified the various steps to be followed, such as wearing masks provided at the centre, washing of hands before entering the hall, and separate rooms for those with high body temperature. Meanwhile, even as the chorus for postponement of the exams grows louder, the NTA is firm that the tests be held as per schedule. It has also cited the August 17 decision of the Supreme Court, saying that a crucial year of students can't be wasted.
