U.S. House of Representatives: House Session

In a 218-214 vote, the House debated and approved the Senate-passed Republican tax and spending cuts bill. All Democrats and Republicans Brian Fitzpatrick (PA) and Thomas Massie (KY) voted against the measure. President Trump was expected to sign the bill into law the following day, on July 4. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) delayed a final vote with a speech that lasted 8 hours and 44 minutes, the longest in House history and breaking a record set by former Speaker and Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) in 2021.
