Defense Officials Testify on 2026 Defense Budget Request

Members of the Senate Armed Services Committee considering a review of the 2026 Defense budget held a hearing to assess the posture of U.S. Northern and Southern Command. Military officials testified on several topics including threats posed by an increase in presences of Chinese and Russian war jets and naval ships in the Alaska region. Illegal immigration was also a key point of discussion with members having expressed concern over the cost of a directive from President Trump to house 30,000 undocumented immigrants at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. Military readiness, artificial intelligence, and U.S. defense systems were also discussed.
