Kochi: The environmentalists asked the government to keep the rivers and canals under surveillance to check the encroachment on its banks. Volunteers should be assigned to make awareness from school level. Noted environmentalist Prof. MK Prasad pointed out that the local authorities should curb the constructions encroaching the river banks that prevent and disrupt the smooth flow of rivers.
