North Korea has reportedly deployed an additional 3,000 soldiers to Russia, reinforcing its support for Moscow’s war in Ukraine. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that the reinforcements, sent in early 2025, add to approximately 11,000 troops North Korea has already dispatched. Around 4,000 North Korean troops have been killed or injured in combat, according to Seoul. Pyongyang has also supplied Russia with significant military hardware, including short-range ballistic missiles, self-propelled howitzers, and multiple rocket launchers. Meanwhile, the United States has warned that Russia may be sharing advanced space and satellite technology with North Korea in exchange for its military aid. North Korean troops were previously stationed in Russia’s Kursk region but reportedly withdrew from the front lines following heavy casualties. Ukrainian officials claim some North Korean soldiers have resorted to extreme tactics, such as detonating grenades to avoid capture. North Korea has also been involved in drone warfare, recently unveiling new AI-powered attack drones that may include Russian technology. Amid ongoing ceasefire negotiations, Russian forces launched another wave of drone attacks on Ukraine, further escalating tensions.
