Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D), Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), and local officials provided an update following an attack at the Temple Israel synagogue. Governor Whitmer and Senator Slotkin praised the response of law enforcement and also addressed the rise of antisemitism in the United States, emphasizing the need to combat it. Senator Slotkin said the Department of Homeland Security, which at the time of the briefing was subject to a partial government shutdown, was essential to public safety and needs to be funded but noted there was a proposal for Immigration &and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to be separate from any funding bill.
