Maine Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Troy Jackson gave remarks at a community event in Belfast. He talked about when he and other Maine loggers held a blockade to protest Canadian loggers poaching jobs from them for less pay, and how the experience taught him to fight for workers' rights. Jackson called for Congress to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and reappropriate the funds toward issues such as health care and housing. "It can't be reformed," he said of ICE, and that "In my estimation, it has to be taken away." He called his opponent, longtime Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) a "rubber stamp" for Republicans, and said that she does not fight hard enough for the people of Maine. Jackson would Sen. Collins in the general election in a race the nonpartisan Cook Political Report with Amy Walter rated as a 'toss up.'
