A Mississippi poultry processing plant, Mar-Jac Poultry, faces over $200,000 in fines from the US Department of Labor. A 16-year-old contract worker, identified as Duvan Tomas Pérez, was killed when he was pulled into a chicken deboning machine while cleaning it. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited the plant for 17 violations, highlighting ineffective safety policies. Pérez, who immigrated to the US from Guatemala, was employed through a contract staffing agency. This incident marks the second worker fatality at the Hattiesburg facility in just over two years. OSHA previously cited the plant in 2021 after an adult employee died in a similar accident. A government probe into the incident said the plant failed to employ a device that would keep the machine from turning on during cleaning
