My Thinking Logs: A Literacy Practice for Math

Fifth graders in Kris Carey's dual language classroom explain their mathematical thinking in journals. At the end of class, Kris gives her students a sentence frame that asks them to explain their thinking about a math task. Students write out their answers on a "My Thinking" page. They use their tablets to take a photo of their work and upload it to Google classroom. Kris uses these photos as a formative assessment tool.
