USPS Speeds Up Orders Of Electric Vehicles After Funding From Congress

The U.S. Postal Service is accelerating its acquisition of battery electric delivery vehicles thanks to a $3 billion funding boost from the Inflation Reduction Act.It will increase the number of Next Generation Delivery Vehicles to a minimum of 60,000 of which at least 45,000 will be battery electric by 2028.The order is part of a 106,000 vehicle acquisition plan set to replace the Postal Service’s fleet of more than 220,000 aging delivery vehicles.“The $3 billion provided by Congress has significantly reduced the risk associated with accelerating the implementation of a nationwide infrastructure,” said Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.The new vehicles, unlike those they’re replacing, will have air conditioning and advanced safety features, the Postal Service said.
