According to a survey of 1,000 Americans by Personal Capital, one in four plan on skipping Thanksgiving this year to save money. 52% of survey participants are asking guests to bring a dish to Thanksgiving dinner and 46% are asking guests to bring dessert. 57% of people revealed that their guest list for Thanksgiving dinner is smaller this year and 53% of people are cooking fewer dishes. One in five Americans doubt they will have enough money for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner this year. 28% of respondents have less than $100 to spend on Thanksgiving, 57% have $100-$200 and just 15% have over $200 to spend this year. Americans say the best ways to save money are to pay attention to deals, use coupons and start shopping for ingredients early. The dishes most likely to be cut from Thanksgiving dinner are Brussel sprouts, extra desserts and creamed spinach.
