1-TOUCH SOCCER PASSING DRILL: PERIPHERAL AWARENESS

In this 1-TOUCH SOCCER PASSING DRILL: PERIPHERAL AWARENESS drill, players can improve their peripheral awareness, while passing, using FITLIGHT®. The purpose of the drill is to work on PERIPHERAL AWARENESS, DECISION MAKING, and the FIRST TOUCH. With one light on each side, the player one-touch passes with the coach. The player must constantly stay aware to see when one of the FITLIGHT® activates. The lights should be positioned just within the edge of their field of view, so they don’t have to turn their head but must stay focused on their surroundings on both sides while passing with the coach. If the light turns blue, the player must check to the light without the ball. If it turns red, the player must turn with the ball and dribble to the light. Players should stay light on their toes, and play a firm one-touch pass back to the coach, and always keep their head up and stay aware of the lights. When they see a light is activated, they must quickly make a decision based on its color. By using FITLIGHT®, this drill puts players in a situation where they must stay focused on their peripherals, think on their feet, and make a sudden decision. This drill could also be done with a rebounder instead of a coach. The FITLIGHT® app can be used to track how well the player is performing at this activity over time.
