Secretary-General Farewell Address

U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan gave a farewell address at the Truman Presidential Museum and Library titled "Global Governance and the Role of the United States." In his remarks he criticized the Bush administration's leadership on the global stage, warning that the U.S. must not sacrifice its democratic ideals while waging war against terrorism. He also talked about needed structural reforms at the United Nations and outlined principles for future action that included collective responsibility, global solidarity, the rule of law, mutual accountability and multilateralism. He answered questions from the audience.
