Cancer is often considered a disease that old people suffer from; however, cases of cancer are on the rise among young people. According to the American Cancer Society, cases of cervical, breast and colorectal cancer are on the rise among people under 50. Colorectal cancer, which originates in the colon or rectum, is the leading cause of cancer death for men under 50 and the second deadliest for women. Since the mid-2000s, cases of breast cancer have increased at a higher rate for women under 50 than those who are above the age threshold. Cervical cancer increased by 1.7% per year from 2012 to 2019 among women aged 30-44 but has fallen 11% per year among women aged 20-24. Something to be wary of regarding cancer is knowing your family history, as the disease can be hereditary and run in the family. It is also important to get screened regularly and in line with recommendations, while also relaying your worries to your doctor if you feel uneasy.
