Duane "Keefe D" Davis was denied bail in August 2024

Duane "Keefe D" Davis, the primary suspect in the murder of Tupac Shakur, has been denied bail due to suspicious activity surrounding the source of the bond money. An initial down payment of $112,500 from music executive Cash "Wack 100" Jones was denied with concerns that it acted as a "gift" from a third party. Judge Carli Kierny argued that because the money did not come from a familial connection, Davis would have very little incentive to comply with bail requirements. The money was also allegedly given on the condition that Jones could conduct an exclusive interview with Davis, which prosecutors argue violates Nevada law. They claim Davis receiving bond money in exchange for an interview would be an example of a criminal profiting off their crime, which is illegal in Nevada. Davis' defense has stated that because the defendant has not been found guilty of the crime, the law does not apply. The Compton native will remain in custody until his trial, which was pushed to March 17, 2025, at his most recent hearing.
