Klopp Named Global Head Of Soccer At Red Bull

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has accepted the role as the global head of soccer at Red Bull, the organization has announced. Klopp, who left the Merseyside club at the end of last season, will begin his new role at Red Bull on January 1, 2025. “Jurgen Klopp is one of the greatest and most influential figures in world soccer, with extraordinary skills and charisma. In his role as head of soccer, he will be a game-changer for our involvement in international soccer and its continued development,” said Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull CEO. Red Bull has said that Klopp will not be involved in day-to-day operations but will advise teams on playing philosophy, transfer strategy and coaching development. Klopp noted that he “could not be more excited” to start and added that although he is no longer a coach, his “passion for football and the people who make the game what it is” hasn’t changed. The 57-year-old has enjoyed a 23-year managerial career that started at Mainz in 2001 before moving to Borussia Dortmund, where he won two league titles. Klopp departed the German club in 2015 but cut his sabbatical short to replace Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool manager later that year. The German won seven trophies during his stint with the Reds, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Club World Cup. Red Bull owns RB Leipzig in Germany’s Bundesliga, Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, as well as Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls. The energy drinks brand, which also owns teams in various other sports, bought a minority stake in Championship side Leeds United and became the club’s shirt sponsor.
