Former Federal Trade Commission Commissioner Rebecca Slaughter (D), whose September 2025 firing by President Trump was upheld by the Supreme Court, gave keynote remarks during an antitrust symposium co-hosted by the American Antitrust Institute and George Washington University Law. She talked about her firing and the impact of the decision on agency independence, as well as what the FTC needs to do going forward. Ms. Slaughter was fired the president for allegedly not aligning with the administration's priorities. She sued the administration, arguing the FTC Act allows removal only for "inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance in office."
