Hamilton Wins Belgian GP After Russell Disqualification

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton captured the Belgian Grand Prix after teammate George Russell was disqualified after the race. Russell found that his car was 1.5 kilograms underweight at Spa-Francorchamps and washence stripped of his third ever race victory. The stewards’ decision gifted Hamilton his second race win in the last three outings and his record 105th victory of his career. “We have to take it on the chin. A mistake has happened and a one-two would have been a great result going into the summer break. As a team there were positives but for George it is a massive blow for it to be taken away,” said Toto Wolff, Mercedes Team Principal. Hamilton started third on the grid before overtaking Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc during the second lap of the Grand Prix to take the lead. The seven-time world champion, who had fallen behind Russell after a pitstop, used his fresh tires to close the gap to his fellow Brit dramatically. However, Russell defended well in the final laps of the race to cross the line ahead of Hamilton, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, and Leclerc.
