Poll has Republican Steve Hilton as CA gov. race favorite

Steve Hilton has maintained a narrow lead in a tight race to replace termed-out California Governor Gavin Newsom come November, according to a new poll. The poll, conducted by the Public Policy Institute of California, asked likely voters, “If the June primary for governor were being held today, who would you vote for?” It put three Democrats and two Republicans neck and neck, with the British-born former Fox News commentator leading by 1%. Katie Porter, a Democrat who has seen a decline in support, came in second at 13%, with Chad Bianco, the Riverside County sheriff, at 12%, followed by Democrats Eric Swalwell and billionaire Tom Steyer at 11% and 10%, respectively.
