Piastri Seals Maiden Race Win Despite Team Drama

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri captured his maiden race win at the Hungarian Grand Prix ahead of teammate Lando Norris. The McLaren one-two, their first since the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, was subject to a fierce row between the team and Norris. Norris, who started on pole, was behind Piastri for much of the race but found himself ahead of his teammate after the final pit stops. McLaren instructed Norris to allow Piastri to pass him; however, the British driver refused until the final two laps of the race. Norris’ engineer Will Joseph argued with the 24-year-old and reminded him to “remember every Sunday morning meeting” and said, “I tried to protect you." Joseph added that Norris will “need” both the team and Oscar if he wants to win a championship, with Norris eventually letting Piastri pass. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton finished third to clock his 200th career podium following a collision with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
