Mamdani doubles down on Airbnb limits as business leaders warn of World Cup hotel crunch

Mayor Zohran Mamdani doubled down on the city's strict limits for Airbnb as business groups warn of a World Cup hotel crunch. At an unrelated press conference Thursday, Mamdani was asked whether Airbnb should remain effectively barred from doing business under New York’s tough short-term rental rules. "We have hotels for exactly that purpose,” Mamdani said. “I continue to maintain the position that I've had, which is that we have to ensure that we allow New York City's homes to remain as homes and not become hotels."
