CAUGHT ON CCTV: Phantom poster pincher revealed

This is the moment local CCTV unravelled the mystery of the ‘phantom poster pincher’. And it was not what protest group WisWIN expected. For the evidence points to a Cambridgeshire County Council highways team singling out their poster for removal from the town bridge at Wisbech. Ignoring another poster – across the river and on another bridge – put up by MP Steve Barclay with Mayor Andrew Lynn. The latter poster was photographed and widely shared by the NE Cambs MP in support of opposition to a £300m mega incinerator proposed for the town. But apart from the town council protest, a larger and more proactive campaign group WisWIN has been petitioning and campaigning vociferously against the incinerator. And they are concerned that their posters were being removed – and even more surprised that theirs, and theirs alone, were being removed by the county council. “Astonishing, quite astonishing” said WisWIN campaigner Peter Freeman. And it was at his suggestion that a local business used their CCTV trained on the town bridge to find out who had been removing their posters. Now they know they are asking the county council for an explanation.
