Safina Namukwaya, a 70-year-old woman in Uganda, recently gave birth to twins in what local media called a "miracle" birth. Namukwaya delivered a boy and a girl via cesarean at a fertility center in the Ugandan capital of Kampala. She went through In-vitro fertilization (IVF) to become pregnant, though it is not known whether she used a donor egg or a frozen one of her own. This is not the first time Namukwaya has given birth as an elder, she gave birth to a baby girl in 2020. According to the now-mother of three, she decided to have children after being continually mocked for being childless all her life. Though she says this most recent pregnancy was her most difficult as her partner "abandoned" her after discovering she was having twins. In 2019, Erramatti Mangamma in India set the record for the oldest living mother by giving birth at 73, again with the help of IVF therapy.
