Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the closure of the Everglades immigration detention center known as "Alligator Alcatraz," saying the temporary facility had fulfilled its mission. Speaking alongside federal immigration officials in Ochopee, DeSantis said demobilization efforts were underway and credited the site with facilitating nearly 21,000 deportations. Border Czar Tom Homan said Florida would continue playing a key role in the Trump administration's immigration enforcement efforts.
