An Israeli stealth fighter jet shot down a manned Iranian aircraft in a historic first early Wednesday during ongoing bombardments five days into “Operation Epic Fury.” The Russian-made Iranian Yak-130 jet was downed in air-to-air combat over Tehran, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on X. “This is the first shootdown in history of a manned fighter aircraft by an F-35 ‘Adir’ fighter jet,” the IDF said, using the jet’s Hebrew name, which translates to “Mighty One.” Until now, the F-35 jets — which are manufactured by US defense giant Lockheed Martin — have only downed unmanned military targets, including drones.
