Musician Gene Simmons Testifies on the American Music Fairness Act

"American music rules this planet," musician and former KISS band leader Gene Simmons said. "If you are against this bill, you are un-American." Simmons joined representatives from the radio industry to testify on the American Music Fairness Act, which was making its way through Congress. The proposed legislation would require radio stations to pay artists and song writers a greater share in royalties for playing their music. Henry Hinton, president and CEO of Inner Banks Media which owns multiple U.S. radio stations, explained why he and others in his industry opposed the bill, citing what he said were already high royalty fees that put traditional radio at a disadvantage compared to streaming giants like Spotify.
