President Donald Trump has made several false and inflammatory statements during a speech to troops at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, amid ongoing tensions in Los Angeles. During an event to mark the US Army's 250th anniversary, Trump repeated debunked conspiracy theories, criticized Democratic leaders, and claimed that protestors are part of a "foreign invasion." The address came as Los Angeles prepares for the arrival of additional federal troops, as anti-ICE protests continue. Trump referred to protestors as “animals” and a “ foreign enemy,” justifying his deployment of the National Guard and troops to the city. “We will not allow an American city to be invaded and conquered by a foreign enemy. That’s what they are,” Trump told Fort Bragg troops. Trump also repeated false claims about the 2020 Presidential election, once again insisting it was “rigged and stolen,” despite there being no evidence to support this claim. Trump also targeted Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, falsely stating that he, not Walz, had deployed the National Guard to Minneapolis in response to protests following the murder of George Floyd. Turning his focus back to Los Angeles, Trump described the city as “a trash heap,” claiming that entire neighborhoods are controlled by criminals and pledging to “liberate” the city.
