What chopper crash survivor Gp Capt Varun Singh had written in letter to students at his old school

A letter by Group Capt Varun Singh, the lone survivor of IAF chopper crash, has surfaced. Singh wrote to his school's principal in Haryana in September to thank 'teachers, instructors and peers’. Group Captain Varun Singh is currently battling for his life at Command Hospital in Bengaluru. Varun Singh was shifted to the Bengaluru hospital from Wellington for further treatment. According to people familiar with the matter, Singh is maintaining vital signs but remains critical. In his letter, Varun Singh said he was on the first list of 12 candidates shortlisted in 2019 for India’s first crewed spaceflight, Gaganyaan. The IAF Group Captain added that he could not make it to the final list due to a medical requirement. Singh, also the directing staff (air) at Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, was awarded Shaurya Chakra for displaying exemplary skill when his Tejas developed technical snag during a sortie last year. Wednesday’s helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu's Nilgiris killed CDS Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others.
