The EU generates 4 million tonnes of e-waste every year, around 40% of this is recycled, but the EU's e-waste recycling target is 65%. 11,000 tonnes of disused chargers are thrown away in the EU every year. Half the phones in the EU use USB micro-B connectors, 21% use Appleās Lightning connector, and 29% use USB-C universal chargers. According to new rules agreed between EU members, all new phones must have a USB-C universal charger by 2024.
