Sarasota Police Marine Patrol Unit stopped an 8-year-old boy who was riding a personal watercraft off the coast of Lido Key on a busy weekend with rough currents on June 14, 2026. It's illegal to allow a person under 14 years of age to operate a personal watercraft and it's a second-degree misdemeanor. As a result, the father of the boy will have to appear in court.
