It could help to decarbonize shipping and provide a sustainable feedstock for the chemical industry. Methanol can be used as shipping fuel but it’s highly carbon-intensive. Producing 1 tonne of methanol can generate up to 1.5 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Green methanol can eliminate more than 90% of these emissions but it costs around more than twice as much to produce as conventional methanol.
