Horner Defends Verstappen Over Norris Crash

Red Bull boss Christian Horner has defended Max Verstappen over his involvement in a crash with McLaren’s Lando Norris at the Austrian Grand Prix. Verstappen and Norris crashed while fighting for the lead on lap 64, causing punctures for both drivers, with Norris forced to retire and Verstappen falling to fifth place. McLaren claimed that Verstappen broke the rules during the race by moving under braking; however, Horner believes Norris needs to learn how to race Verstappen. “Certainly, from Max’s side, he’s not going to change. There’s an element, I think, of Lando learning how to race Max, and they’re discovering that. Inevitably, there is going to be more close racing between the two of them as the cars look so close over the forthcoming races,” said Christian Horner. The crash benefited Verstappen by the race’s end, as he extended his lead over Norris in the championship to 81 points after 11 races. Norris will have home turf advantage next time out, however, with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone the next destination for the 20 drivers. Horner believes that the crowd will have little effect on Verstappen but hopes he’ll get a “reasonable reception”as he looks to win the race for the second straight year.
