Woolly Mammoth And Rhino Amongst Ice Age Remains Found In UK Cave

The remains of a woolly mammoth have been found in a cave in Devon, England. The bones, which were also found alongside those of a woolly rhinoceros, wolf, and a hyena are thought to date back to the last Ice Age about 30,000 to 60,000 years ago. Archaeologists found the remains during the building of a new town development near Plymouth. Lead archaeologist Rob Bourn from Orion Heritage claimed the finds were of "national significance" The developers of Sherford new town have pursued archaeological work at the site since 2015 to unearth any finds of interest. The Sherford Consortium, who are in charge of the project have said the underground area where the remains were found would be conserved and not built on.
