Applications and use cases for hydrogen continue to expand due the benefits it can provide, especially in heavier equipment. DEUTZ recently announced the launch of its TCG 7.8 H2 hydrogen engine which will go into full production in 2024. Cummins has also begun testing of a hydrogen fueled internal combustion engine which it plans to evaluate in on- and off-highway applications. Hino Trucks introduced its Class 8 XL8 prototype truck powered by a fuel cell electric drivetrain a year after announcing its development. Toyota has created a compact fuel cell module containing all necessary components to aid development for OEMs. Several companies are also working to develop fueling infrastructure as well as cleaner methods of producing hydrogen.
