The FIA’s investigation into the events of last season’s F1 finale is key to whether Lewis Hamilton will continue in the sport. The FIA announced in December they would investigate the events surrounding the Safety Car procedures in the race. Hamilton lost the world championship to Max Verstappen on the season's final lap due to a safety car. The controversy stems from only cars between Verstappen and Hamilton being allowed to unlap themselves. Hamilton has been silent since the finale with Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff saying the driver was “disillusioned.” Hamilton is waiting on the FIA’s decision before deciding on whether he will continue, according to reports. Hamilton is due to partner new teammate George Russell in the upcoming 2022 F1 season.
