The mirror drill for defense will help beginner basketball players gain the foundational defensive skills necessary for game play. To complete the mirror drill, have two players set up facing each other, about one arms length apart. One player will be defense, and one player will be offense with the ball. Have the offense move the ball around, mimicking in-game situations, while the defense mirrors these patterns in real-time. This drill teaches solid defensive body position, in addition to defensive hand position, while developing these as sound defensive habits.
