California Gov. Gavin Newsom talked about how his grandfather held a gun to his mom’s head in a bizarre segue as an explanation for the man he is today. Newsom recounted how he learned about a tragic experience he said his mom, Tessa Menzies, went through as a child, while working on his memoir “Young Man in a Hurry,” during a book event in New Hampshire on Thursday. The governor called the book a love letter “to those that raise us” while sharing a dark moment from his own family.
