South Korea Orders Evacuation of Yeonpyeong Island Amid North Korean Artillery Shelling

South Korea ordered the evacuation of civilians on Yeonpyeong Island after North Korea fired over 200 artillery shells into the waters near the island on Friday. No injuries were reported from the shelling. In 2010, North Korea shelled Yeonpyeong Island, killing 2 South Korean marines and 2 civilians. Yeonpyeong Island is close to the Northern Limit Line, the de facto sea border between the two Koreas. None of the shells crossed the border on this occasion according to reports. South Korea conducted a maritime shooting exercise in response to the North Korean provocation.
